Name: Abe
First joined Toastmasters: August 2007
Why did you first look into joining Toastmasters?
Public speaking is an intricate part of my career. I want to make sure my ability to present effectively remains polished. Additionally I want to further improve my public speaking skills. The ability to communicate well will help anyone succeed in their professional and personal life.
What were your concerns or apprehensions about first visiting a club or joining as a member?
I really didn’t have any apprehensions. I had a minor apprehension about being pressured to join after the first meeting I attended as a guest. Big "D" Toastmasters had a unique way of making me feel "welcome," without making me feel "pressured," to join.
What was your actual experience compared to your apprehension?
The experience was excellent. Several positive memories are made at TM meetings but for some reason, my first meeting will always be the one I remember most. There was no pressure at all.
What caused you to actually join?
After attending my third meeting as a guest I figured it was time to join ….kind of like that relationship that you just end up in but not really sure how you did.
Why did you join Big "D" Toastmasters as opposed to perhaps another Toastmasters club?
Big D is a diverse club that fosters an environment conducive to self improvement. The club itself has the most tenure within Dallas allowing for well seasoned members to share their knowledge and experience which I feel I can benefit from. We also have lots of fun!
What is different about Toastmasters compared to what you initially thought?
I am impressed with how well organized the meetings are. The different roles and responsibilities as well as the parliamentary procedures are all aspects of TMs that I did not know existed.
