It Was Wild At BIG D Toastmasters the other night ...
Last weeks meeting began at 6:32pm and had the theme "El Dia de los Muertos" - Halloween. Katherine Gean made her debut as toastmaster. She had the whole room done up for halloween and the tables were sprinkled with a variety of tempting goodies.
We welcomed two guests - Stephanie and Carlos.
During the business session, Katherine Gean read out the previous week's minutes on my behalf. Thank you Katherine! She also informed us that we received our DCP point for paying our club dues on time. Danni then reminded us to register for the fall conference to be held November 9th and 10th. Ginny Higgins moved a motion to place before the executive committee a format for written speech evaluation. The club members voted in favor of this motion and it will be considered at the next executive meeting.
Paul Carter was TTM last week and had some spine tingling questions to ask. The word of the day was appropriately chosen - trepidation.
After the break, John Ahearn and Terry Pothier gave their ice breaker speeches! Congratulations! Kumar inspired us with his speech "The jar of life" and Eric made a passionate and plea to give manual speeches. Ginny stepped up to be timer/vote counter and Hut to be evaluator at short notice. Thank you Ginny, Hut. Awards went to Renita - Best TT, Kumar - Best Speaker, Danni - Best Evaluator and Eric for Toastmaster of the Evening.
The meeting ended at 8:30 pm with the awards presented to the winners!
Snippets from the meeting:
John Ahearn - "10 years too late for the hippie movement..."
Terry - "I took a wrong turn on the way to California" on how she ended up in Texas.
Seth Godwin's book was recommended by several members - "All Marketers are Liars"
Jim - "You can tell a lot about a person from his/her halloween costume"
Eric - "The law of the farm - seed, soil, sun, rain, labor and time; each ingredient is essential for a harvest"
Eric also informed us that we receive 2 free advanced manuals when we get done with the CC manual!
