Theme for the Evening was "Baby"

Neetu Agarwal called the meeting to order and Ben Grubert led us in the invocation and pledge. Adam Brewster, VP of Education, stepped in for Jagadeesh Krishnan as presiding officer for the business meeting. The Secretary's Report from the last meeting was read by Angelo Pereiro. Paul Carter, VP of Membership, gave an update on our club's membership drive and announced the grand prize for the contest winner would be a George Foreman grill. Paul noted that there is some good traffic coming to the Big D Talk web site, and he encouraged the membership to check the web site daily for new posts. He also reported having sent out forty-five letters to prospective members and previous members.

Takashi Nishikawa returned to our weekly meetings after a hiatus brought on by the birth of a lovely baby girl, Rika. He presided as Toastmaster and chose the theme for the evening. Takashi and his wife, Nobuko, decorated our meeting room with cute posters relating to the theme. Adam Brewster was the motivator.

Table topics were led by an energetic and very funny Eric Dyson. Topics ranged from deciding who should get custody of Britney Spears kids to why men sometimes behave like big babies. Ben Grubert, Danni Babik, Tony Brucks Jr., and Jim Wolff were called upon to speak.

After the break, prepared speeches were given by Mac Smith on "Death, Taxes, and Prostrate Cancer," Angelo Pereira on "The Hitchhikers Guide to Cellular Phone Acquisitions," and Mike Weibel on the rather mysterious "There are Always Alternatives." The word of the day was "loquacious" and in keeping with the spirit, two of the three speakers didn't qualify on time. When Paul evaluated Mac, he said that "Mac never let a clock get in the way of a good story!" Neetu evaluated Angelo and Danni evaluated Mike. John Sessions was the general evaluator and remarked the evening had witnessed as much shuffling in the evaluator roles as a deck of cards in Vegas.

Others taking roles in  the meeting were Mac Smith as Parliamentarian, Joanie Esparza as Grammarian, Ben Grubert as Ah-counter and Katherine Gean as timer/vote counter. We enjoyed the company once again of our Area Governor, Debbie Allen. We had five guests ... Pratibha Pandit and Shwetha Shekar from Texas Instruments, Gary Quinnett was a guest of Mike Weibel, Val Palmer who is a student at Parker College and future toastmaster Rika Nishikawa who was all of 2 1/2 months old.

The awards went to Tony Brucks for "Best Table Topics," Mike for "Best Speaker," Danni for the "Best Evaluator," and Adam for "Toastmaster of the Evening." Thanks go to Angelo and Adam for getting this information turned in.
