Last week's meeting had the theme of "Valentine's Day." Paul Carter stepped in for Cliff and Adam and called the meeting to order. Rosa Temengil led us in the invocation and Pledge. Paul then stepped in to conduct the business session as well, on behalf of our vacationing President, Jagadeesh Krishnan. The previous week's minutes were read by Angelo Pereiro and approved as read. Danni Babik and Mac Smith took devilish delight in trying to abuse Paul as this was his first time running the business session. Naturally, John Checki and Jim Wolff jumped into the fray. A frivolous motion was made but didn't last long due to a calling of the Orders of the Day. Angelo noted that Paul's confidence in braving this verbal onslaught was commendable.
Neetu Agarwal was the Toastmaster for the evening and she was introduced by Paul to the group with the tag line, "Big things come in small packages." Neetu had decorated our meeting room with hearts and banners, candles and cupids throughout, giving it a romantic feel. Chocolates and fortune cookies were available. Danni motivated us by referring to mundane items and events at the workplace with exotic names. Table topics speakers were Angelo and Eric Dyson, Danni, John Sessions, Mac Smith and Sherry Meyers.
After the break, Ice Breaker speeches were given by Joanie Esparza and Hut Carspecken. John Checki rose to the occasion and gave a speec to cover for a member who was unable to attend. Joanie spoke on "My Ever Changing Path," and Hut spoke on "Common Ground." Angelo reports that he couldn't tell what john's speech title was, but that he "laughed himself inside out."
Our General Evaluator was the effervescent Sherry Meyers. Jim Wolff evaluated Joanie, Eric Dyson evaluated Hut and Tony Brucks Jr. evaluated John. Reports were given by various toastmasters; Paul as Parliamentarian, John Checki as Grammarian, Jim as our Ah-Counter, and Keith Moore as timer/vote counter. Mac gave an impromptu report on Paul's handling of the business meeting.
Awards for the evening went to Eric for "Best Table Topics" describing his date with Ms. Knowles, Joanie for "Best Speaker" with her moving speech on her personal experience as a woman, a mother, and a graduate student, Eric again for "Best Evaluator" and Sherry for "Toastmaster of the Evening" for her passionate evaluation of the meeting.
Debbie Allen, our area governor, was in attendance and it is always a joy to have her with us. She says, "Big D is sure addictive!"
