Our theme Thursday night was, "Dear Abby," and it was all about advice. Dear Abby (Abigail van Buren) once said, "If we could sell our experiences for what they cost us, we'd all be millionaires."

Toastmaster — Cliff Hutchinson
Sergeant-at Arms — Cliff Hutchinson (stepped in to fill this role).
Inspiration & Pledge — Jim Wolff
Business Meeting — presided over by Jagadeesh Krishnan
Motivator — Ben Grupert who spoke of building bridges instead of fences
Table Topics Master — John Checki with questions all over the map. We noted "few" answers <GRIN>!

During the business meeting, we took care of some real business instead of Coach Stoopes. We accepted Katherine Gean as our new member. Just so you know, she took the middle ground on the Dog vs. Cat issue.

After the break, prepared speeches were given by Ryan, John and Danni. In the true Big D tradition, John and Danni stepped in at the last hour to fill in for Neetu and Sherry who could not show up.

Ryan gave an inspiring speech on "The value of medicines". He touched upon the innovation happening in the pharmaceutical industry and how it was helping the patients of Alzhiemers, cancer, diabetes and many other diseases. Danni Babik, our second speaker, talked about her journey to Uncle Valentine's farm house and the "pig with a wooden leg" that saved Uncle Valentine from getting caught up in a fire. John Sessions, our last speaker and who Paul, our VP-Membership calls Mr. BigD (John is our most experienced Toastmaster) spoke about how to carefully choose an ATM machine and how to transact mindfully. His punchline for ATM was Always Transact Mindfully!

Paul Carter was the general evaluator and our individual evaluators were Adam Brewster (Ryan), Jim Wolff (Danni) and Mike Weibel (John). After the evaluations, reports were given by Jagadeesh Krishnan (Grammarian), Eric (Ah-horn), and Mike Weibel (Parliamentarian). The word of the day was "chimerical."

The ribbons went to Jagadeesh (Best Table topics), Ryan (Best Speaker), Mike (Best Evaluator) and Danni (Big D award). We had five guests: Doug Moore, Cory Caldock, Hutson Carspcken, Claudene Anderson and our own Rick Hall. We adjourned the meeting at 8:20 pm.

Regards,
Jagadeesh

Since everyone looked at me like I was made out of kryptonite when I mentioned the Fruitcake Lady, I wanted to pass on this link.

Qhat you might see on the vides and her comments are in fact "suitable," for TV ... as a warning "parental discretion," is advised!

      Enjoy,
