Google Has Found Us ...

This is not so much a Big D Toastmasters post tonight as it is a post on getting indexed by Google. I find some of this stuff fascinating but it bores others to tears ... so I'll tell you what we'll do. If you want to find out how Google found this new blog in under 30 days, click on the MORE > > link right below. If you could care less ... then ignore this little blurb and wait for my post tomorrow.
There ... you have it ... the best of both worlds!
A lot of people start blogs for a lot of reasons ... to put photos of their kids on the web ... to start journaling so that others can read about their activities ... and of course, the younger generation on mySpace put up photos, favorite music, and talk about a lot of stuff.
And then there are those who try to be a little bit more focused. I would like to think that would be US! New on the web but existing for a couple of very specific reasons;
#1 — To provide a place where all the Big D Club members can go to catch up on what is going on, who spoke, who took home a ribbon ... the latest club news and of course, interesting posts about the members themselves.
#2 — To provide a tool for those who are searching for a Toastmasters club or those who are interested in finding out more about a club can easily find US!
So ... I have been tweaking this blog and making it friendly for search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, dogpile, and others. I not only want them to find us but Index us so that others can find us. One of my goals is for a Google search to bring us up in the first ten listings (first page) ... if you have done any searching yourself, you don't like to click through page after page to find what you are looking for. We want to make it easy for prospective members to find us.
I was pleasantly surprised tonight ... I think you will be also. Click the following link; it is going to search for Big D Toastmasters on Google.
Big D ToastmastersAs of this evening, Google returned 214,000 web pages that "match" (or come close) to what we are searching for. However, If you count down five returns on the first page ... you come to Big D Talk. There we are. Google has already indexed part of our site and this page is the post that deals with building a club and the awards that are available.
We have a good start. I can't wait to sit down with our new officers as we plan for this new year.
